Drag racers took to the eighth-mile pit lane drag strip at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the final time in the month of June as the ninth week of Friday Night Drags had points on the line for the fourth time in 2013.
The night featured some new and infrequent competitors finding their way to victory lane at the end of the night. The evening also featured a few families placing the younger generation behind the wheel of the family’s racing machine.
In the Summit Racing Sportsman Division, Tony Morse stepped out from behind the wheel of the 1981 Chevrolet Malibu he has been piloting and instead turned the keys over to his son. The younger Morse would make it to the final round, before Terry Wells would defeat him in the left lane.
A few of the newer faces to claim wins on Friday night included Brad Buongiorne, Bobby Bell, Stephen Defayette and Mike Gregory, among others.
Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine returns July 5 with week 10 of the drag racing season, and fireworks prior to drag race eliminations.
