Fayetteville’s Glenn Morris jumped to the early lead in the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Model division and cruised to his first win of the season Saturday night at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA.

Morris dedicated the race to fallen friend Darren Holt and his family. Holt lost his life the night before and family members were in attendance at Senoia.

Joining Morris in victory lane were Hampton’s Paul ‘Cowboy’ Holloway in the Newnan Bonding B Cadets, Roopville’s Clifton ‘Hog Head’ Moran in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks, Newnan’s Bobby ‘Wild Child’ Arnold in the Mini Stocks, Newnan’s Jay Conner in the Bombers and Carrollton’s Dustin Smith in the Modified Mini.

It had been over one year since the popular Glenn Morris had visited victory lane at Senoia Raceway. Morris qualified outside front row for the main event and jumped to the lead at the drop of the green as pole sitter Scott Duffey of Newnan slipped a bit in turn one. Morris would lead flag to flag besting Duffey and Alabama’s Russ Ogletree for the win.

“I want to dedicate this race to Chris Holt and his family,” said a choked up Morris in victory lane. “Chris lost his brother last night.”

Emotions were running high in the Newnan Bonding B Cadets as well with Paul ‘Cowboy’ Holloway running up front only one week removed from honoring his recently departed father with an emotional tribute at the track. Holloway pulled away from a great race between Lake Spivey’s Dow Kirkland and Lanett, Alabama driver Roger Arnett. Kirkland and Arnett are battling for the divisional points lead with Arnett holding the slim lead.

One of the best races of the night was for fourth, fifth and sixth in this race. Newnan’s Jimmy Baxter was in a dog fight with Newnan’s David Burton and Stockbridge’s Billy ‘The Kid’ Stevenson. The three raced each other hard darting inside and outside trying for a solid run on the others. The fight ended on lap 13 when Stevenson tapped Burton causing him to spin out. Later, Baxter would retire to the pits with problems and Stevenson would blow an engine. Burton would come from the back of the pack to finish in the top five.

Holloway won the feature race. Kirkland held off Arnett while Fayetteville’s Jason Miller finished in fourth ahead of Burton. It was Holloway’s first win of the year after winning three late in the season last year.

A wild night under the full moon kept the fans wanting more Mini Stock action. An initial start crash chilled the trackside fans when Sharpsburg’s Lonnie Patterson spun up the track in turn two collecting Randy Brady’s Ford Mustang. Brady’s car was launched skyward bouncing off the top of the concrete wall protecting fans on the outside of track.

Griffin’s Bo Chambers was one of three race leaders before Bobby Arnold settled into the number one spot. Barnesville’s Gary Parker charged through the field after having to pit earlier in the race to change a tire. Arnold, Parker, Brandon Bright and Brandon Libri raced bumper to bumper, door to door, until the checkers flew over the field. Arnold won for the third straight week with Parker in second and Bright third. Post race inspection found that Parker was a couple of pounds light at the scales and he was disqualified.

Jay Conner kept his perfect season intact. Conner topped the Bomber feature and is now four for four in races this season. Conner has been swapping driving duties with teammate Michael Mills.

Clifton ‘Hog Head’ Moran passed Franklin’s Gary Brand on lap 9 after an intense race. Brand cut a tire after holding the two-time defending class champion at bay for the previous six laps. Newnan’s Rusty ‘Rocketman’ Johnson ended up running second to Moran while Locust Grove’s Wilson Boozer had his first top three finish of the season.

Dustin Smith won his first Modified Mini feature since the first week of April.

Senoia Raceway hosts the ‘Mid-Season Championships’ this Saturday, June 29 with championship racing scheduled in the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Models, Newnan Bonding B Cadets, Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Bombers and Modified Mini. All feature races will award double points in season’s title chase.

The track will also host a special Wednesday, July 3 event featuring racing in all weekly divisions. The Newnan Bonding B Cadet class will run their annual special event offering an extended lap feature and $1000 paid to the winner. The night will conclude with a huge display of fireworks celebrating the national holiday.
