Anthony Anders, already the points leader in the Late-Model Stock division at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC, padded his edge with second and first places in the Twin 40’s main event as part of the Bryan Ramey Trial Lawyers Memorial Day Classic.
Anders took the point by passing Ralph Carnes and pulled away as the field fought for position behind him. Trey Gibson, who won the opening race, finished second in the nightcap, while Carnes was third and Will Burns finished fourth. Jeremy Burns was fifth and Marty Ward finished sixth.
In victory lane, Anders said his car was a little too tight in the opening race and too loose in the nightcap.
“If we could get that worked out we will be even better than we showed tonight,” Anders said. With Anders, Gibson and Carnes in the top three spots the Burns brothers, Will and Jeremy, took fourth and fifth, respectively and Marty Ward was sixth.
Dylan Hall, Ryan Walker, Maxie Bush and Brandon Fox completed the top ten.
In the opening 40-lapper, there were lots of spins and cautions, but it didn’t bother Trey Gibson, who led from start to finish.
Gibson got pressure from Marty Ward, from Roger Powell, and Anthony Anders but nothing seemed to faze him as he kept jumping out front restart after restart.
When Gibson got to victory lane, he received a hug from his grandfather, Ed Porter, and Gibson thanked him for being allowed to complete.
Points leader Anders finished second, and Ward was third. Ralph Carnes took fourth and the Burns brothers, Jeremy and Will, were fifth and sixth. Ryan Walker was seventh as Maxie Bush, Dylan Hall and Tasha Kummer rounded out the top ten.
Although Anders and Ward stayed close in the points race, Toby Porter, who had been second in points, did not race. Justin Sorrow, who had been third in points, blew his engine early and finished 14th.
Powell suffered mechanical problems in the opening race and did not start the nightcap.
In the Street Stock main Drew Moser took the checkered flag, and Buck Simmons finished second. Curt Allen was third, as Scott C. Walker and Freddy Hale, Jr. was fifth.
Austin Heil took the checkered flag in the Four Cylinder main event, with Tommy Davis Jr. second. Brian King was third and Don Tavernia was fourth. Char Harris took fifth.
Bob Root led from start to finish in the Truck division main, as Mike Mote took second and Jon Martin was third.
Ricky Stephens raced his way to victory in the Chargers division, and Andy Norris finished second. Tim Crowe was third and Dale Walker took fourth. Chris Harvell was the fifth place finisher.
