The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season begins this weekend with four events on the Week 1 schedule of events. There will be one NeSmith Chevrolet OMG WRS Late Model Division event on Friday night, and three races are on tap for Saturday night.
Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS will open the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season on Friday night. Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL will be in action on Saturday night.
Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series will compete with each other over a 27-week season through September 29 for a $10,000 Championship using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals. The NeSmith Chevrolet OMG WRS point fund will pay back through the Top 10 drivers in the final point standings. Drivers will also compete for another point fund at each sanctioned track.
Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Champion. Washington was tied with Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA in the final 2012 point standings, but Washington won the tie-breaker with more 50-point wins. Ryan King of Seymour, TN finished a close third followed by Duke Palasini of Leland, MS in the fourth spot, and Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL rounding out the top ten.
Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS, Robby Moore of Brosley, MO, Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS, and Kyle Berry of Portageville, MO finished sixth through tenth respectively in the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series final point standings.
The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.
