Anders Sweeps Opening Night At Greenville-Pickens

Anthony Anders took up right where he left off Saturday night as Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC opened its 2013 season. Anders started deep in the field in the first main event, and stormed into first for the win, then again started mid-pack for the nightcap and won it going away.

“Driving this car is like driving your own vehicle out on the highway,” Anders said. “It handles just like it is on a rail. It’s a blessing to have equipment like this, but what I really want to do is thank my fans.”

Defending track champion Toby Porter finished second in the first race, with Marty Ward third, Justin Sorrow fourth and Will Ragsdale fifth.  Ryan Walker took sixth and Brandon Fox was seventh in the opener. Will Ragsdale took eighth, Dylan Hall ninth and Tasha Kummer was 10th.

In the nightcap, Ward was the second-place finisher, with Porter third, Sorrow fourth and Brandon Fox fifth.     In the nightcap, Ragsdale was sixth, Ron Hall seventh, and Dylan Hall eighth. Tasha Kummer finished ninth, with Bernie Dyches in 10th.

GPS closed out the 2012 season with Twin Late Model Stock races, and Anders won both of those. With Saturday’s wins, Anders is riding a four-race winning streak at GPS that spans two seasons.

In other action, Andrew Cordell worked his way to the front to win the Renegade main event, as Bobby Emory finished second. Daniel Jameson finished third, with Parker Jamison in fourth and Blake Gregory in fifth.

Zach Pressley held on to win a wild Chargers race, and the two cars that crossed the finish line second and third were disqualified during post-race inspection. Tim Crowe moved up to second, and Josh Sams was third. Chris Harvell and Steve Kelley rounded out the top five.

Buck Simmons won the Street Stock main, with Dylan Crowe second and Freddy Hale, Jr. in third. Eric Gibson finished fourth and Curtis Allen fifth.

Ray Mullinax was the winner in the four cylinder division, with Chris Francis second. Charlie Hooper was third, Don Taverria fourth and Buck Simmons fifth.

Action returns to Greenville-Pickens Speedway on March 23, with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East making the first of two appearances at the Speedway this year.  For more info, visit greenvillepickens.com.
