Defending NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Champion Lee Pulliam of Semora, NC and Virginian C.E. Falk split victories in Saturday’s Danville Toyota NASCAR Whelen Late Model Twin 100’s at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, VA.

Pulliam took the lead from former NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Champion Philip Morris of Ruckersville, VA on lap 82 after 10 laps of close side-by-side racing and held off Morris to win the first of the day’s pair of 100-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division.

His margin of victory in the caution-free race was .906 second.

Falk finished third in the opening race, with rookie Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, NC and former NASCAR Whelen All American

Series National Champion Peyton Sellers of Danville, VA rounded out the top five finishers.

With the top two finishers of the first race being inverted for the start of the second race, Morris grabbed the lead at the outset, but was unable to hold off Falk, who made a charge from his third starting spot.

Falk, of Virginia Beach, VA, grabbed the lead on lap 31, but Morris kept the race close until he was forced to the sidelines with a broken power steering pump. Pulliam moved into second place at that point and stayed within hailing distance until the race’s second caution period bunched up the field for the last restart with 15 laps to go.

A good restart allowed Falk to regain his edge, and, from there, Falk held off Pulliam to claim the win in the second race. Falk’s margin of victory was .727 second.

Pulliam and Falk each earned $2,500 for their respective victories.

Austin Thaxton of Cluster Springs, VA finished third in the nightcap, with McCarty and Dennis Holdren of Roanoke, VA, rounding out the top five finishers.

Pulliam averaged 87.486 mph in winning the first race. Falk averaged 75.156 mph in winning the second race.

In other action, Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, VA got his 2013 season off to a good start in winning the 50-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division.

Willis held off Joey Throckmorton of South Boston, VA through three restarts that followed a series of mishaps with eight laps to go in the race, and edged Throckmorton by 1.065 seconds at the finish.

Garrett Bunch of Front Royal, VA finished third with Daniel Moss of Danville, VA and Mark Simpson of Richmond, VA rounding out the top five finishers in the 17-car field.

Willis won the pole for the race and led the entire 50-lap distance.

Joe Allred of Scottsburg, VA enjoyed a good season-opening event with a flag-to-flag win in the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Allred won the pole and led all the way, edging Randy Hupp of Halifax, Va. by 1.034 second in the race that was slowed by only one caution period, that coming for a mishap on the second lap.

Eric Crews of Long Island, VA, Stuart Crews of Long Island, VA and Austin Milam of Danville, VA rounded out the top five finishers.

Racing action returns to South Boston Speedway on Saturday afternoon, March 23, with the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program.

The four-race program will be highlighted by a 150-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division. Races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Modified Division will round out the afternoon’s action.
