Jackie Nosbisch, Jr. avoided trouble and made a mid-race pass for the lead en route to scoring the Late Model victory Saturday night at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.
Nosbisch, Jr., Steven Mathis, Jr. and Roger Crouse won their heat races. For the front row of the feature it was Crouse and Mathis, Jr. Mathis, Jr. took the early lead but on lap two, Henry Burnside spun in turn two, bringing out the first of many cautions in the first few laps.
After several attempts to get the first few laps in, Mathis, Jr. spun in front of the field in turn four handing the lead over to Crouse. By lap 11 Crouse was making his way through lap traffic with Nosbisch, Jr. right on his back bumper. After the restart on lap 13, Nosbisch, Jr. found his way around Crouse and never looked back making his way into victory lane.
Nosbisch, Jr. had made his first appearance of the year after his victory during the Winternationals on opening night on February 2. Dave Schmauss finished second, followed by Crouse in third. Mavrick Varnadore finished fourth after going to the rear following a trip to the pits early in the race. Josh Peacock rounded out the top five.
In other action, the Old Time Mods were first on the track for the night. Richard Svenson and Lars Amundsen won their heat races. For the feature it was Tom McDonald and Charlie “Fireball” Mixon on the front row for their 12 lap feature event. Mixon was the leader on lap one, but then Svenson took over the very next lap.
Caution came out on lap three, but on the restart, Svenson led the field into turn one. On the very next lap, Jamie Frankland took over the top spot. By lap eight, Frankland and Amundsen were battling their way through lap traffic. With a few laps left, Amundsen got into the back of Frankland, almost turning him around, but Frankland held on and went on to pick up the win. Amundsen finished second while Gary Riccio, Dan Darnell and Richard Svenson rounded out the top five.

Next up were the V8 Warriors. Derek Gay and Marco Reyes won their heat races. For the front row it was Tim Stoffel and Brett Phillips. Phillips took the early lead, but then the caution came out as Henry Wiley came to rest in turn one. On the restart, Gray was able to grab the lead and held on for two laps as Marco Reyes came from dead last to take over the lead and not look back.
Reyes crossed the finish line first his last time out, but was disqualified in tech. It was Reyes once again taking the win and making it through tech as he picked up his first win traveling from Coral Springs. Bill Whitney, Derek Gray, Jason Manning and Tim Stoffel rounded out the top five.
The final feature event belonged to the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. William Burnside, Troy Dittebrand and John Moore won their heat races. Gene Gross and Brett Calonge made up the front row for the feature. Gross led the field to the green and led until the first caution came out on lap eight as Randy Tyler slowed in turn two against the wall. On the restart, Gross once again led the field until another caution came out as Richard Humfeld came to rest on the backstretch and was not able to continue.
Once again Gross led the field for the next lap until John Moore passed Gross. Just before the checkered flag waved, Jason Burnside went for a wild ride, tumbling over and coming to rest on his roof in turn two. Driver was okay, but the car wasn’t. That brought a one lap dash for the cash, as Moore led Gross around the track to pick up his second feature win of the season, Gross finished second while George Handy, Darrell Taylor and Brett Calonge rounded out the top five.
