Mark Eswein became the latest driver to officially qualify for the ASA Member Track National Championship. The Wisconsin Rapids, WI driver won the Super Late Model track championship at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI last Thursday night. He joins Shelby Stroebel and Lance Gatlin as official qualifiers for the ASA Member Track National Championship.
Eswein finished third last Thursday night to win the track championship by 28 points over Mark Mackesy. Eswein has a national average of 3.4388.
Stroebel continues with the overall lead in the national championship chase with an average of 5.0763. Stroebel’s win streak at Meridian Speedway in Meridian, ID was extended to 17 last Saturday night as he won a non-points event named after his father Allen Stroebel, who passed away last year after a long battle with cancer. His win last Saturday will not factor in to the National Championship.
Gatlin will have his final points event this Saturday night at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA. He wrapped up the title at their last event, but still has an opportunity with this Saturday night to catch up to Stroebel. Gatlin has a national average of 4.6725.
Along with Lonesome Pine Raceway, three other ASA Member Tracks will determine their track champions this weekend. Lebanon I-44 Speedway, Newport Motor Speedway and Rocky Mountain Raceways will have their championship events on Saturday night.
Mike Slone will be looking to hold off Matt Wallace for the ASA Late Model championship at Lebanon I-44 Speedway this Saturday night. The ASA Member Track in Lebanon, MO is also making this a double points night.
Last Saturday night, Wallace was able to shave off 80-points to Slone’s lead with his second place finish. Slone was right behind him in third. Wallace is only 185-points behind Slone going into their finale this Saturday night with a total of 420 points available.
Wallace does have a higher average than Slone in the national standings. Wallace has an average of 4.1862 while Slone has a 4.0874. Wallace has the second highest average in the West Region and third highest overall.
Dennis Queen continues to lead the standings at Newport Motor Speedway in Newport, TN. They will have twin 50-lap feature events this Saturday night to determine their 2012 track champion. Queen has a 15-point lead over Taylor Coffman and a 23-point lead over Wayne Webb. Taylor Nesbitt is only 33 points behind Queen. It is safe to say that the championship is up for grabs.
Queen has a national average of 3.9873 while Coffman has an average of 3.8419. Webb has an average of 3.6740 and Nesbitt goes into Saturday night with an average of 3.6058.

Michael Hale will go into the Maverik Modified season championship this Saturday night with a 169-point lead at Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, UT. Hale holds that lead over Mark Ith Jr. and a 192-point lead over Roger Wilson.
Hale has a national average of 3.8030 while Ith Jr. has an average of 3.8689. Wilson has the highest average among the RMR competitors with an average of 4.0036.
Dustin Rumley could be a factor before the 2012 ASA Member Track National Championship closes at the end of the month. He has two more events before the Late Model championship is decided at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC. He will have one event this Friday night and their championship night is set for Friday, September 21.
Rumley won the last two feature events and now has a 38-point lead over defending ASA Member Track National Champion Barry Beggarly and a 44-point lead over Rodney Cook in the track standings. Rumley has a national average of 4.2593.
Kyle Borden will be in action this Saturday and next Saturday at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, CA. He has a very comfortable lead over Micah Palmer in the ASA Modified standings. He has a national average of 1.3704.
“The next few weeks are going to be intense as everyone is waiting to see who will be the 2012 ASA Member Track National Champion,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said. “Our ASA Member Tracks will be deciding their track champions and then we will find out who are the best of them all. If you can get to one of our ASA Member Tracks this weekend and next weekend, you should go because the racing will be incredible.”
