Montgomery Set For Big Alabama 200 Weekend Events

Montgomery Motor Speedway in Montgomery, AL is gearing up for a thrilling weekend of racing, September 15-16, 2012 for the 48th Annual Alabama 200. Saturday night action includes local divisions plus Motorcycles, with the big 200-lap Pro Late Model finale on Sunday afternoon.

The action kicks off Friday evening, September 14, with an open practice from 4:00pm until 9:00pm. Mason Massey, Ben Kennedy, and a host of other late model and local division teams will test and tune their machines to prepare for the busy weekend of racing.

Saturday is the busiest day of the three at the Montgomery half-mile. Practice and qualifying precedes the action-packed night of racing. Racing events for Saturday include the headliner, the FourStar Freightliner Street Stock 100. A 100 lap spectacle for the local Street Stock division, with a total of over $9000 in purse money available. With such a large purse, teams from other surrounding tracks in the Southeast are expected to compete along with all of the regular MMS Street Stocks.

Bonuses for the FourStar Freightliner Street Stock 100 include the Auto Performance Engines Pole Award, which will be $100 given to the fastest qualifier. The Doug Wood Auto Alignment Halfway Leader bonus is $100 awarded to the driver leading at lap 50. That driver will also have a shot at an additional $100 bonus if he goes on to win the race. Finally, Front Porch Grill has sponsored $100 for the Hard Charger award, given to the driver who picks up the most positions from the green flag to the checkered flag in the 100 lap race.

With the $2000 paid to the winner if 21 or more cars enter the event, plus $400 in bonuses available, one driver could potentially take home a $2400 payday in the FourStar Freightliner Street Stock 100 race.

Also headlining the action on Saturday night is the popular Motorcycles. The Southern Motorcycle Asphalt Racing Series will be back in action to back up the great excitement of their performance from earlier in the year. Chase Sconyers, Van Rayburn, Rob McLendon, and many others are expected to compete.

Other divisions running Saturday night include the Super Stock/Truck division, and the Cuplite division. Action begins at 6:00pm for this special event. Grandstand admission for Saturday night is just $15 for adults, $10 for Senior/Military, and $5 for children 6-12.

Sunday is the big day. The Show Me the Money Series Championship will be on the line in the 200 lap finale for the series. The 48th Annual Alabama 200 goes green at 2:00pm, following an on-track autograph session for the fans at 1:30pm.

Hunter Robbins is looking to defend his championship from last year, holding a 40 point lead over Mike Garvey.
