Mike Magic Charges To USCS 600 Win At Sugar Creek

K&N Filters Pole position starter Mike Magic from Winder, Georgia faded to third place on lap one of the twenty lap of the USCS 600 Sprint Car Series main event at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, GA on Saturday night.

That was before he came charging back to the front of the pack on lap nine and dominated the final half of the race on his way to USCS victory lane. It was his first career USCS 600cc winged mini sprint feature win. Shawn McElroy from Charlotte, North Carolina who started outside the front row, came off at least a year away from racing to lead the first eight laps and then chase Magic to the finish line in the runner-up spot.

Three-time 2012 USCS 600 feature winner, Chris Openshaw from Bessemer, Alabama raced to a third place finish. The series point’s leader, Bobby Zaiontz from Columbus, Mississippi followed the seventeen year-old in fourth place. Another 2012 feature winner, Matt McCullough from Atlanta, Georgia rounded out the top five.

Sean Hosey from Clarksville, Tennessee led the rest of the field in sixth place. Veteran racer Bob Trapino from Alpharetta, Georgia finished in seventh place followed Tom Maushardt from McDonough, Georgia in seventh place. The only female racer in the field, 16 year-old Cassie Klenke from Greer, South Carolina who was sorting out a new car, finished in eighth place. Scott Berkheiser from Powder Springs, Georgia finished in ninth place and Jimmy Hancock from Danielsville, Georgia rounded out the top ten drivers.

Bobby Zaiontz kicked off the evening’s action with a win in the Hoosier Race Tire Speed Dash.  Zaiontz, an eight time 2012 USCS 600 Sprint Car Series feature winner, then followed with a win in the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat race. Mike Magic then won the Wilwood Disc Brakes Second Heat race. Sean Hosey who started 12th in the main event garnered the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger Award after advancing to sixth place.

The next USCS 600 Sprint Car Series event is on Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18. The two-night same-track special event is part of the Senoia Summer Nationals III at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Georgia.  Visit www.uscsracing.com for more info.
