With the assistance of a strong car and a little luck, Tim Brown of Rural Hall claimed the checkered in Saturday’s Great Clips 100 at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC.

Brown started off the night by qualifying on the pole in dominant fashion. And when the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series randomly drew for the initial lineup, Brown drew third as his starting spot.

Brent Elliott of Denton, who had just won the previous week’s race, drew the pole as his starting spot. Starting on the outside was Jonathan Brown of Winston-Salem, who opted to start the race in a backup car.

“After we unloaded in practice, I heard a noise in the motor I didn’t like – and I was really afraid to run it,” said Jonathan Brown.

In order to stay competitive in the points race, he jumped into his brother’s car – although he knew that it would be a challenge to pilot a machine that he wasn’t accustomed to.

Jonathan Brown jumped out into the lead when the green flag dropped, but he soon had to defend it against the outside row restart challenges from Tim Brown. The #83 of Tim Brown powered into the lead during the first restart and never looked back.

Tim Brown defended his lead for eight restarts, while Jonathan Brown tried each and every time to reclaim the top spot.

“I could never really get it to go on the outside after that initial start,” said Jonathan Brown. “At the same time, I wasn’t going to give up second place and duck in behind Tim. So I just gave it everything I had.”

“Before we started the race, I told the guys that I’d be happy with a top five finish in a car I never drove,” said Jonathan Brown – who ended up finishing third.

Although he felt he had the car to beat, Tim Brown said that you can never get cocky at Bowman Gray Stadium.

“It’s never over until it’s over. I’ve done this long enough that I don’t count my chickens before they hatch,” said Tim Brown. “Plus, someone may run off the racetrack and drag some dirt out – so you’ve got to be pretty tense every lap. You can hit the dirt and spin out and there goes your race.”

Danny Bohn of Huntersville climbed up from 22nd to finish second, passing Jonathan Brown during the final laps. Burt Myers of Walnut Cove finished fourth.

In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Taylor Branch of Lewisville claimed the checkered flag in the first 20-lapper. Michael Adams of Yadkinville applied the pressure to Branch but ended up finishing in second. Kenny Bost of Lexington brought home the win in the second Sportsman race.

K.J. Stimpson of Lewisville won the 20-lapper for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. David Sumner of Trinity finished second, with Stephen Baker of Kernersville coming in third.

In the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, Andrew Sanders of Mocksville and Chase Hunt of Lexington
