‘Superman’ Sport Allen was faster than a speeding bullet Saturday night, as he surged out front early and went on to score the East Bay Sprints feature victory at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL Saturday night.
Allen and Rich Alexander made up the front row for the feature. Allen looked like he was shot out of a cannon as he took the lead going into one.
The first caution came out as Kurt Taylor spun in turn three. That brought the field right back to Allen’s back bumper. On the restart, Allen showed the way and never looked back as he picked up another feature win in the Sprint car division. Kerry Gilbert was second with Gene Lasker, Darvalics and Alexander rounding out the top five.
When asked in victory lane about his retiring, Allen laughed and said it was about his twentieth time. Sport thanked his crew and the Amans family for having faith and putting him in this car.
“We had a great car tonight and it was dialed in, but we still have to figure out this carburetor,” he said. “We are not carburetor people but we will get it figured out.” He also dedicated the race to his mom for Mother’s Day.
In other action the first feature of the night went to the Outlaw Fours. Billy Howard and Jesse Brown won the heat races. It was Zach Amundsen and Roberto Morfin, Jr starting on the front row. When the green dropped, it was Amundsen taking the early lead, with Morfin, Jr. close behind. On lap two, Morfin, Jr. started smoking and pulled off as the first caution was waved for Brandon Yates spinning in turn two.
On the next restart, Brown and Amundsen were battling for the lead at the line on lap four. Brown took over the top spot on lap five. Caution came out as Amundsen lost control and spun in turn one. On the restart, after starting ninth, Shirlene Hammond had moved up to second but then spun in turn one the very next lap and kept going.
On lap eight, after several cautions, leader Brown fired on the restart coming out of four and slowed, handing the lead over to Howard, who never looked back, Howard picked up his second feature win of the year. Stephen Hohlbaugh, Yates, Sherman Pope and Nick Hebrank rounded out the top five.

Next up were the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds. Buzzie Reutimann, Austin Sanders and Wayne Hammond won the heat races. Starting on the front row for the feature was Tim Powers and Bobby Dixon. After Powers and Dixon went into one, Thomas Pratt drove by both drivers on the outside taking the lead with Dixon in second and Powers back to third. The first caution came out on lap two as Dixon spun in turn four, collecting Roger Crouse. Crouse was able to continue as Dixon had to take his car to the pits.
On the restart, Hammond moved into second with Powers hanging on to third. The final caution came out with just six laps to go as Aileen Collins spun in turn two. On the restart Pratt lead the rest of the race with Hammond finishing second. Powers finished third with David Pollen, Jr. and Crouse rounding out the top five.
In Victory Lane, Pratt thanked Wayne Hammond for helping him set up the car.
“I hope he didn’t give me all his secrets,” Pratt said.
Street Stocks were next with Thomas Burnside and Donnie Reed picking up the heat wins. For the feature, it was Reed and Burnside starting on the front row. The first caution came out on lap three for debris on the back stretch. Two laps later another caution came out as Randy Shields spun in turn two. On the restart, Burnside continued to lead the field, but on lap seven, Reed spun in turn four on the high side, collecting Dorsey Strickland as well. Both drivers were able to continue. The final caution came out on lap nine as Burnside, leading the field, spun on his own in turn two and handed the lead and win over to Dennis Wilson, Jr. Terry Jones driving the 95 car of Jeff Rodgers finished second with Ronnie Whitley, Stickland and Mark Pickelsimer rounding out the top five.
The final event was the Dirt Daubers as Janien Dixon bested the field picking up the win over her husband and current points leader Bill Dixon. The two time defending Champion Brett Phillips finished third with Henry Wylee and Frank Pelusio rounding out the top five.
