Openshaw Streaks To First Career USCS 600 Win At Dixie

Seventeen-year-old Chris Openshaw from Bessemer, Alabama bested a strong field of USCS 600 Sprint Car Series competitors from seven states to reach victory lane for his career-first USCS 600 main sprint car main event win on Saturday night at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA.

Another USCS young gun, Matt McCullough from Snellville, GA followed Openshaw across the finish line in the runner-up spot. The defending series Champion Bobby Zaiontz from Columbus, MS finished third. Veteran 600 sprint car racer Bob Trapino from Alpharetta, GA finished in the fourth position and another racing veteran, Dwight Pilgram from McDonough, GA rounded out the top five.

Justin Lineman from Salisbury, NC finished in the sixth position. Mike Magic from Winder, GA followed Lineman in the seventh finishing position. Rick Goss from Charlotte, NC followed Magic in eighth place. Dwight Pilgram’s teammate, Andy Hogan from Decatur, TX finished in ninth place. Vernon Wright from Hiram, GA who is McCullough’s teammate, rounded out the top ten.

Mike Magic won the First Heat. Bobby Zaiontz got the win in the Second Heat. Bob Trapino garnered the Pole Award after first heat winner Mike Magic drew a six in the inversion draw.

Zaiontz won the first ever five lap Hoosier Speed Dash for RockAuto.com USCS 600 sprints. The new event was comprised of the top six drivers from the previous event at Toccoa Speedway in Toccoa, GA on April 14th.
