Veteran FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touring Division racer Royce Bray of Hull, GA  made a daring three-wide move to thread the needle and grab the lead with 12 laps remaining in the $5000-to-win Inaugural FASTRAK Winter Nationals at Toccoa Speedway in Toccoa, GA on Sunday. Bray stalked 16 year old North Augusta, SC driver Cla Knight and when the FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touring Division rookie entered lap traffic Bray closed to his rear deck.

As Knight looked for a way around the lapped machine of Jimmy Ivester his car slid high off of turn 4. That left Bray just enough of an opening to squirt through the middle headed into turn 1. From there Bray, who started 7th, fought off a late race restart challenge from Knight, and went on to lead the final 11 circuits.

“I was on a little different tire compound than most everyone,” Bray said in victory lane.  “I tried to take care of my tires and at the end I still had plenty left. He left the door open off of 4 and it was time to go. The track was tight and passing was tough so you had to get everything you could when you could. I need to than Joe Alewine and Junk Money Racing for the opportunity to drive this car and making it possible for us to win today.”

Knight wound up as the runner-up in his first career start with the FASTRAK Racing Series. Knight is a graduate of kart racing and is taking on his first full season behind the wheel of a Dirt Late Model.

“I need to thank Chris Madden,” Knight said.  “He does our shocks and helps us out a lot. We had a really good car. We should have won the race. I try to race everybody clean and I don’t believe that I was raced clean today. But I see how we will have to race against him (Bray) now.”

2010 FASTRAK Southeast Champion David Smith of Inman, SC rallied from his eighth  starting position to finish in the third position.

“The track was a lot better than I expected today,” he said.  “It was tough but there were some places you could make some passes. There towards the end it took rubber and that was where you had to be but all in all it was a good day for us. Thanks to Stanley McCarter Towing and Fuel Curve Engineering for all of their help this weekend.”

In preliminary competition, it was another FASTRAK Touring Division Rookie that took the spotlight. Dale Timms of Hodges, SC rocketed to fast time honors with his lap of 13.345 seconds. Knight was second fast followed by Kenny Collins, Brian Connor and Larry Timms.  Timms also picked up the win in the 10 lap heat race ahead of Pennsylvania’s Billy Henry and Bray.

Knight stayed his course and won his heat race, with Larry Timms and David Smith following behind. In the third and final heat of the day, Kenny Collins took the checkers in front of Owen Osteen and Jimmy Ivester. Sunday’s RockAuto.com B-Main saw Ty Lowe take the win. 2011 FASTRAK National Rookie of the Year Jordan Dill was second followed by veteran Kenny Peeples.
