It was two years ago that Tim and Tony Moses reopened Senoia Raceway’s three-eighths mile speed plant with a newly applied layer of clay. The excitement of dirt track stock car racing’s return to Senioa, GA has not waned over the last twenty-four months.
Now with the new season fast approaching the promotional duo has decided to take up the old asphalt surface that was in place under the layer of clay and prepare for the 2012 campaign.
“We had several issues over the past couple of seasons trying to keep moisture in the clay surface,” explained Tim Moses. “The clay was only a foot to foot and a half deep and the racing would dry out the surface quickly, especially during the hot summers.”
The decision was made at the end of last season to take up the old asphalt surface and add more clay. The end result should allow for the track to remain tacky and very racy for the entire race night this year. The unnatural barrier of the old asphalt surface will not block the moisture penetration during race day track preparation.
“The asphalt was blocking our efforts to get the water down into the clay during the day,” added Moses. “Removing the asphalt will allow us to get the water deeper into the surface and allow for the moisture to rise throughout the evening helping to keep the track better for the competitors.”
The track welcomed a few local late model competitors to test the new surface last week and the consensus was the improvements will definitely make for improved racing in 2012.

The track will run an open practice on Saturday, March 10. It will be the first time that drivers in all the divisions competing this season will have an opportunity to test out the new racing surface. The grandstand will also be open and free for the fans to come out and get an early season glimpse of the new race cars and changes at the track. The practice will begin at 2 pm on Saturday, March 10 and wind down around 5 pm.
Senoia Raceway will also host the inaugural Senoia Raceway Swap & Shop on Saturday, March 10. Everyone is invited to clean out their garage and bring items to the ‘racer’s garage sale’. Vendor spaces are only $20 and public admission is only $3. Vendors are expected to offer everything from engines, transmissions and chassis to shocks, wheels and suspension parts. The track has also received inquiries from vendors bringing ‘ready to race’ race cars, trailers, tires, tools and tool boxes and more.
The Senoia Raceway Swap Shop opens for vendors at 8 am with the general public allowed in starting at 9 am. Practice will follow the Swap & Shop.
The track will host weekly racing in Late Models, B Cadets, Hobby Stock, Mini Stock and Bombers beginning on Saturday, March 31. Opening night will also feature the 2nd Annual Spring Fling 40 for the late models paying $1500 to the winner.
