The Rattler Ready To Strike At South Alabama Speedway

Race fans and drivers are set for a great weekend of Late Model action in Opp, Alabama, as South Alabama Speedway will play host to the 36th annual Rattler 250.

The Super Late Model feature, slated for Sunday afternoon, will draw drivers from all over the southeast to chase a $10,000 payday, including Bubba Pollard, Kyle Benjamin, Mike Garvey, Johanna Long, Stephen Nasse, Ross Kenseth, Donnie Wilson, T.J. Reaid and others.

They’ll be driving in the tire tracks of some of the greatest Late Model drivers in history.  Dating back to 1974, the event has seen such winners as Pete Hamilton, Buck Simmons, Russell Nelson, Bill McGinnis, Ronnie Sanders Mike Alexander, Charlie Bradberry, Wayne Willard, Ryan Crane, and Augie Grill.

Last year, two-time winner Grant Enfinger held off Donnie Wilson to pick up th win.  Jeff Fultz finished third, with Ryan Blaney fourth, and Chase Elliott fifth.

Also on tap this weekend is the Pro Late Model Rattler 125, scheduled for Saturday.  The event, which will be held for the seventh time this year, has quickly become a highly sought after win for Pro Late Model racers.

Past winners of the event include David Hole, Ronnie Sanders, Ryan Crane, Bubba Pollard, and Korey Ruble.

In 2011, Chase Elliott held off a hard charging Bubba Pollard and outlasted the weather to win the rain shortened event.  Augie Grill ran third, with Chris Davidson fourth and Daniel Hemric fifth.
