Danny Lasoski in a UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car and Kenny Wallace in a DIRTcar UMP Modified powered to victories on Wednesday night at the 41st Annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park in DeLeon Springs, FL.
In the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions main event, Lasoski started third and patiently worked past 20-time World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser and 2005 Knoxville Nationals winner Kraig Kinser to move in front on Lap 19 of the 30-lap feature event. A late caution set up a shootout to the checkered flag between Lasoski and Kraig Kinser with Lasoski motoring to the checkered flag at the half-mile oval.
“Any time you run second in traffic you have an advantage,” said Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws champion. “I know Kraig was going where he was going to get around traffic. … It’s a momentum booster for sure. Our team is really happy.”
In the feature event for UMP Modifieds, Wallace charged from the outside of row two and kept the pressure on Michael Long until he passed him on a Lap 9 restart. Wallace then held off Bart Hartman to the checkered flag. Dave Hess Jr., Long and Ken Schrader rounded out the top five.
“It was an awesome win,” said Wallace, who will attempt to qualify for the Daytona 500 next week. “What makes wins special is when you have the best modified racers in the United States. I mean I had Bart Hartman all over me, Michael Long led early and then I look up on the board and here comes Kenny Schrader. This is a dream come true. We worked really hard for this.
“This is like a championship race every night. Every night is a big race. This isn’t any old feature. To win it for my sponsor, University of Northwestern Ohio, this is awesome.”
