Officials with the FASTRAK Racing Series and the Toccoa Speedway in Toccoa, GA, announced this week that the Georgia Winter Nationals originally scheduled for February 17-19 will be rescheduled for the announced make-up date of March 8-10, 2012 because of construction delays.

Toccoa Speedway promoter Andy Hyde has been completing extensive remodeling and construction projects during the winter months including replacing all of the tracks outside guard railing, perimeter fencing and erecting a new scoring tower.

In the course of the construction Hyde has faced several bouts of bad weather and other delays which have put the project completion severely behind schedule.

“Andy and everybody has been working 7 days a week sun up to sun down when the weather would allow it and they have just run out of time,” said Toccoa Speedway director Brad York.  “He and I spoke today and we talked with Stan Lester and we all agree it’s best to change the date now instead of waiting until the last minute and create problems for people planning to be here.”

“We are certainly disappointed that we had to move the date because it was really building some momentum but we have to do what we think is going to be the best for everyone involved,” commented FASTRAK Founder and CEO Stan Lester.  “I know that Andy has been working his tail off trying to get finished by the February dates but he has just had too much that he can’t control slow him down. We realize that there are some other things going on that weekend and we hate that we have to change our date but it was inevitable.

“We need to make sure that everyone understands that we are going to be on the track Saturday and Sunday by one so that we can get everything done and get folks out before it gets colder,” added Lester  “We will need the drivers’ cooperation to keep things moving along so we can get done by six each day.”

“We want to encourage all the race fans to stop in and get coupons at these locations,” Lester concluded.  “We appreciate their support and want them to come out and enjoy a good time at the races.”
