Friday night’s program of the Rheem World Crown 300 weekend at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Georgia was especially big for two drivers, as Cody Haskins dominated the Rheem 75 Truck feature, while second generation racer Brian Sosebee scored the Sportsman feature win, dedicating the victory to his late father.

In the Rheem 75, Haskins jumped out front early and went mostly unchallenged for the rest of the event, cruising to the win.

“We did a lot of testing up here,” Haskins said in victory lane.  “(We) got it working real good on long runs up high, and it helped us tonight.”

Spencer Davis sat on the pole, having set a new track record for the trucks in qualifying earlier in the evening.

Haskins took the lead off the drop of the green, while Davis dropped into second and Brandon Jones would settle into third.

The first caution flag of the night flew seven laps in when Cody Puckett spun off turn two.  He was able to continue.

When the green flag flew again, Davis faltered, falling back as Haskins again charted to the lead.  Mark Caudell moved to third, with Steve Stagner in fourth and Matt Vasser to fifth.

Davis began moving back towards the front, getting to fourth as Caudell began working on Haskins.

The caution flew again on lap 24 for debris.  When the green came back out, Haskins again moved out front.  Caudell maintained second with Davis moving to third, Jones in fourth and Vasser in fifth.

Davis continued his charge, moving around Caudell for second on lap 29.

Things would stabilize as the leaders approached the halfway mark.  That would change when C.J. Tuck spun on the backstretch, bringing out the caution on lap 44.

While Haskins again moved to the lead on the restart, Davis had more trouble, falling almost to the back of the field.

Davis’ night came to an end with a mechanical issue on the backstretch on lap 50, again bringing out the caution.

When the green flag flew, Haskins moved out front again while the field stacked up four wide behind him.  Jones was able to hold off Caudell for second as Wagner settled in to fourth and Cohen Motes moved to fifth.

Wagner moved around Caudell for third off of turn four.  Motes tried to follow Wagner, but washed up, collecting Caudell and sending his truck into the wall.

Haskins would retain the lead on the restart, while Motes began to fade.  Wagner made the move on Jones for second with 10 laps to go, and would close on Haskins.

But Haskins had the advantage, and moved away as the final laps wound down.  He would streak under the finish line first, followed by Wagner in second, Jones in third, Vasser fourth and Motes fifth.

Friday night’s Sportsman feature was one to remember, with second generation racer Brian Sosebee picking up a long awaited victory, as Brian Sosebee scored the win.

John Mobley started from the pole, but was overhauled on the first lap by Mark Caudell.

Caudell jumped out to a healthy lead, but saw that lead evaporate due to lap traffic.  That same traffic opened the door for Sosebee to slide past Mobley, and as the 20 lap feature closed on the halfway point, Sosebee was nipping on Caudell’s heels.

With six laps to go, Sosebee made the move down low in turn three, and slid past Caudell to take the top spot.

Sosebee would not be challenged from there on, as he scored the victory.

Sosebee dedicated the win to his late father, former NASCAR driver Gober Sosebee, who lost his life in an agricultural accident 15 years to the day, on Nov. 11, 1996.

“This one is for my father,” Sosebee said tearfully in victory lane.

Caudell held on for second, with Mobley third, Jody Trivette fourth and Tommy Stokes fifth.

In other action, Mason Elzey scored the Mini-Cup victory.  Brody Bullard ran second, with Draton Bennett, Jacob Cochran and Will Fagan rounding out the top five.
