Blake Jones has re-written several record books for being the youngest driver to win different races and championships.
This weekend, the 14-year-old from Sevierville, Tenn., will break his biggest record yet. After Saturday’s American 200 at Rockingham Speedway, Jones will be crowned as the youngest Rookie of the Year ever in the CARS Pro Cup Series.
“The way we have worked the points out (Jones is 95 points ahead of fellow rookie Cale Conley), if we can take the green flag on Saturday, we’ll win the rookie championship,” Jones said. “It’s a great situation to be in.”
Jones, who drives for Kirk May Racing, will join a list of Rookie of the Year winners that includes NASCAR star Brian Vickers and CARS Pro Cup legend Jeff Agnew.
“It feels great to have your name in a basket with some of the big names like that,” Jones said.
Jones will pilot the No. 14 Chevrolet and will have a teammate this weekend. Kirk May Racing will also field the No. 41 Elite Auto Center Chevy for NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series driver Cale Gale.
Both drivers will be gunning for the team’s first Pro Cup win in the season’s final race.
“Cale has run well in everything,” Jones said. “I think we’ll both be up near the front. Hopefully, we can bring home a 1-2 finish for KMR.”
