Wragg Closes Season With OLM Victory At ‘The Melon’

Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia wrapped up their 2011 season last week with one final great night of racing, including the final race of the season for the GA for Fair Tax / David Ragan Ford Outlaw Late Model Series.

Gainesville, GA’s Mathew Wragg sat on the pole for the feature with David Hodges outside. On the drop of the green, Wragg jumped to an early lead.

The race for second through fifth was a gith one, as Hodges, Jason Bates, Steve Renner, and Steve Barker swapped position ever lap. There were a few cautions throughout the race with Jason Bates slipping off the top and Kyle MaCallam spinning. The final caution came when Wragg and Stewart Smith came together in turns 3 and 4 while Wragg was lapping Smith.

On the restart, Steve Renner came on strong, passing Hodges for second and making a run for the lead. Renner got up to the door of Wragg a few times but could not make the pass. Wragg went on to become the fourth winner of the seven race series. David Hodges would come home third, solidifying his place as the series champion.

In other action, Cody Hale scored the victory in the Enduro feature, beating out Wesley Burke for the win.  John Burke finished third, with Michael Hutto in fourth and Chris Neighbors in fifth.

John Tullis travled all the way to Cordele from Dacula, Georgia and went back home with the first place trophy in the Mini-Stock division.  Brett Roberts finished second, with Jake Roberts, Jimmy Chancy and Banks Perdue rounding out the top five.

In the Pure Stock feature, it was Billy Nipper scoring the victory, with Carlton Isreal second, Brian Duckworth third and Craig Irish finishing fourth.
Bubba Harry took home the win in the Bandolero feature.  Alton Clark was second, with Zach Leonhardi third, Megan Younginer fourth and Lee Hodges fifth.

Alex Coffey scored the Legends victory, with Eric Simpson finishing second, Austin Cindrick third and C.J. Pucko fourth.
