It didn’t come easy.

Bubba Pollard had to hold off some of the toughest competition in the southeast and survive three tight restarts to score the victory Saturday night in the CRA Super Series Easy Racers 100 at Gresham Motorsports Park.

Pollard had to wait through two red flags, including one that took out top contender Augie Grill, and had to hold off a hard charge from Acworth, Georgia’s T.J. Reaid to score the win.

“We had a good car tonight,” Pollard, said in victory lane.  “There were a lot of good cars here, 10 or 12, that could have won the race.

“We made a couple of adjustments right there before the race, and she’s hooked up.”

Reaid jumped out front early, with Daniel Hemric moving to second and Stephen Nasse to third.  Pollard, Grill and Chase Elliott charged from their starting positions to give chase.

The first caution flew three laps in, as Nate Caruth spun on the backstretch.  Jimmy Doyle spun to avoid him, gathering up Rodney Benefield in the process.  Caruth continued, while Doyle and Benefield went to the garage area.

On the restart, Reaid would assume the lead again, but the yellow would fly one lap later, as Caruth spun again, this time in turn four.

The next restart would also not go well, as Allen Karnes, Landon Cling and Jerick Johnson tangled on the front stretch.  Johnson was done for the night.

When the race finally got going again, it was Reaid moving out to a sizeable lead, with Hemric second and Clay Rogers moving to third.

Meanwhile, Pollard would move to fifth, and Elliott would move into sixth.  Grill found himself at the back of the pack, having made an unscheduled pit stop under caution.

The race moved into a long green flag stint, as Reaid extended his lead.  Hemric, Clay Rogers, Nasse, and Elliott would give chase, with Grill moving steadily through the field to catch up to the lead pack.

The yellow flag would fly again on lap 57 for debris.

On the restart, Reaid spun his tires, opening the door for a hard charging Pollard to pick up the top spot.

Grill would move around Reaid a few laps later to pick up the second spot.  With 28 laps to go, Pollard begins to move away.  Reaid settled into the third position.

Behind the leaders, Elliott, Hemric and Nasse fought for fourth, swapping positions lap after laps.

As the field came to three to go, the lap cars of Dwayne Buggay and Kenzie Rushton tangled in the third turn, sending both spinning and bringing out the yellow flag.

On the restart, Pollard moved out front.  Grill tried to move up behind him, clipping the third place car of Nasse.  Grill’s car went spinning, making hard contact with the outside wall and sliding to a stop in turn one.  Grill’s night was over.

Under caution, Elliott moved to pit road to get fuel.  His car stalled, and his crew could not get it refired.  He would not rejoin the race.

With teams concerned about fuel, CRA officials brought out the red flag to allow for track clean up.

On the restart, Pollard would again jump out front, with Reaid giving chase.  But before one lap could be completed, Pendergrass, Georgia’s Paul Kelley broke loose in turn three, backing his racer into the wall and ending his night.

Pollard would again grab the lead on the restart, and moved away for the win, the 51st of his Late Model career.  Reaid finished second, with Ryan Blaney third, Daniel Hemric fourth and David Odell fifth.

It was also a wild night in GMP’s local divisions.

Bill Hoose took this wild ride down the front stretch at GMP after contact with Jeremy Parris during the Truck feature. Hoose was uninjured, and later in the night drove the truck back around to the front stretch pits. Photos by Justin Poole

The scariest moment of the night came during the running of the Truck division feature.  While Chris Wagner moved out to an early lead, Jeremy Parris hooked Bill Hoose on the front stretch on lap six, sending Hoose’s truck hard into the wall and barrel rolling down the straightaway. Hoose’s truck flipped about six times, coming to rest right side up in turn one.

Hoose climbed out under his own power and walked away.  Parris was disqualified, and parked for the night.

When the race resumed, Wagner again moved to the front, with Mark Caudell moving to second and Brandon Jones to third.

With 10 to go, D.J. Vanderlay began stalking the leaders, moving around Jones for third. A spin by Kevin Vasser brought out the caution again, tightening up the field for the finish.

When the green flag flew again, Vanderlay charged to second, but couldn’t find a way around the leader, as Wagner scored the victory.

“This is our first win this year,” Wagner said.  “We’ve had a lot of bad luck, and I’m glad to get a win here.”

Vanderlay finished second, with Davis third, Caudell fourth and Jones fifth.

In Outlaw Late Model feature, Scot Smith jumped out to the early lead, but saw his advantage disappear when second place Jimmy Motes spun on the front stretch.  Motes stayed off the wall, and was able to continue.

On the restart, Jason Bates jumped to the lead, with Smith falling to second and Todd Vanderford moving to third.  One lap later, Vanderford moved to second, and started working on Bates for the top spot.

The yellow flag flew again on lap 12, when Smith spun in turn two, backing his ride into the wall and ending his night.

On the restart, Bates again jumped out front, but one lap later, Vanderford powered past into turn one to take the lead.

The yellow flag flew again when Motes and Hoyt Stephens spun individually in turn four on lap 19.  Both were able to continue.

When the green flag flew again, Bates jumped out front.  But race officials determined he jumped the start, and black flagged him.  When Bates checked up to answer the flag, he made contact with Motes, sending Motes up the track and backwards into the wall.  Bates spun, and was hit by Matthew Wragg.  Bates night was done, but Motes and Wragg were able to continue.

Vanderford jumped back out front on the restart, and would stay there for the rest of the event as he was flagged the winner.

However, according to track officials, Vanderford refused to tear down in post-race tech, and was disqualified.

That gave the win to Hoyt Stephens , with Wragg second, Motes third, Bates fourth and Chad Atha fifth.

In the Sportsman feature, John Michael Mobley jumped out front on the start, with Brian Sosebee moving to second and Mark Caudell to third.

Caudell and Sosebee were fighting for second when Caudell hooked Sosebee’s right rear, sending both cars spinning.  Sosebee contacted the outside wall, with Caudell hitting the inside.  Both were able to continue.

Mobley would move back out front on the restart, with Jackie Daniel moving to second.

Caudell would spin on his own in turn two, bringing out the caution again.  Meanwhile, race control moved Mobley to the back of the field for jumping the start, handing the lead to Daniel.

Daniel would hold the lead on the restart, and move away with the advantage as Sosebee went to the pits, his night done.

Caudell charged to second, but couldn’t get any closer to the lead, and Daniel scored the victory.

“I want to dedicate this one to my mom, who we lost three days ago,” said a tearful Daniel in victory lane.  “This one’s for my mom.”

“I want to say thanks to all you fans who cheer for me,” he added.

Caudell finished second, with Mobley, Jody Cash and Sosebee rounding out the top five.

Scotty Beck (25) got the worst of this shunt in turn four during the Mini-Stock race, as he was caught up in an incident with Aaron Calvert (01), Avery Burgess and Spanky Hicks. Photo by Justin Poole

It was a another wild and wooly affair in the Mini-Stock feature, with Scotty Beck jumping out in front of Spanky Hicks and Trace Embry on the start.  Hicks would charge past Beck on the second lap to take the lead, with Embry following him to take second.

Dustin Stephens appeared to lose and engine in turn four on lap three, with Steve Hill spinning in fluid behind him as the first caution of the event flew.

On the lap four restart, the cars stacked four wide in turn one, with Hicks dropping back as Embry charged to the top spot, with Thrasher to second and Beck to third.

The yellow flag would fly again on lap seven, as Thrasher slowed in turn two.  Steve Hill spun as he attempted to check up, gathering up Bill George, who tagged the outside wall.

When the green flag flew again, the cars stacked up three wide again going into turn one, with Aaron Calvert coming away with the lead.  But as the cars raced through turn three, Calvert appeared to spin in his own fluid, gathering up Beck, Burgess and Hicks, bringing out another caution flag.  Calvert and Burgess were able to continue, but Beck and Hicks saw their night come to an end.

With the extended caution, the race ran over the allotted 15 minute time limit, meaning it would end with a one-lap dash for the win.

When the green and white flags flew, Embry jumped out front and would stay there for the victory.

“I’ve never driven a better car,” Embry said in victory lane.

Burgess finished second with Hill coming home third.  B.J. Thrasher finished fourth and Beck was credited with fifth.

In the Renegade feature, Blake Gregory jumped out to the early lead, but was overhauled by Tony Newman off turn four by the end of lap one, with Jessie Thomas and Mike Childers following him.

Newman would show the way for most of the event, but Newman would slip by on the final turn during the final lap to pick up the win.  Newman finished second with Dicky Davenport, Thomas and Blake Gregory rounding out the top five.

In the Mini Cup feature, Will Fagan passed Mason Elzey for the lead four laps in, and held on to the top spot the rest of the way for the win.  Brody Bullard finished third.
