A mix of new and old faces made their way to victory lane during Atlanta Motor Speedway’s thirteenth week of Friday Night Drags and MCR Safety Show-N-Shine.
In the always competitive Sportsman division, a first-time winner found his way to victory during final eliminations. Scott Milner claimed the win driving a 1993 Ford Mustang. Milner’s win makes him the third different winner in as many weeks. He is also the seventh different Sportsman winner on the season.
Tony Morse claimed his fourth win in 2011 in the Super Pro division. First-half points champion Mark White made his return to the speedway after a two-week hiatus, following an engine tear-down of his 1967 Shelby Mustang. White appeared strong early, but retired early from the event with a loss of oil pressure.
The Street Outlaw division saw Darryl Stiles takes his third win of the season, all in consecutive weeks. Stiles however, was not wheeling his usual 1967 Chevrolet Camaro to the win. This week, Stiles was behind the wheel of the 1969 AMX that fellow competitor Jerritt Scott normally races. Scott was unable to be at Friday Night Drags this week, so the car owner asked Stiles to race his machine. The AMX now has two wins in 2011 with two different drivers.
The season’s first and second half points champions will race against one another on August 19 to determine the season’s overall points champion.
Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags resumes August 5. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and nightly drag race eliminations start after 9:00 p.m.
