A festive crowd was on hand Friday to see drag racers compete for double points in addition to America’s Birthday Celebration at Atlanta Motor Speedway for Week Nine of Friday Night Drags and MCR Safety Show-N-Shine.

Fans were treated to an exciting display of patriotism with the Papa John’s Pizza Fireworks Extravaganza prior to drag racing eliminations, as well as a large field of competitors looking to gain momentum heading into the Mid-Season Points Championship on July 8.

In the Super Pro Clash of the Titans, McDonough’s Mark White claimed victory over Mike Weaver, who was making his first appearance of the season at Friday Night Drags. White claimed the win in his 1967 Shelby Mustang. Aside from picking up his fifth win of the season, White also took advantage of double points and broke up the tie in the standings between himself and Tony Morse.

In the Street Outlaw Challenge issued within recent weeks to competitors by track officials, Jason “Spike” Thomas of Stockbridge and his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro rose to the occasion and brought home the trophy and tightened up the points standings.
