Sorrow Holds On To Take Late Model Victory At Anderson

Justin Sorrow claimed the  victory in the Late Model race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night. The victory was the first of the season for Sorrow at the Anderson Motor Speedway.

Sorrow led every lap of the race but the victory did not come easily. Marty Ward put the pressure on Sorrow the final three laps of the race but Sorrow managed to hold him off to secure the victory.

Sorrow became the third driver to pick up a victory in the five races ran thus far this season. Marty Ward finished second. Neil Meredith finished third. Ralph Carnes finished fourth. Anthony Anders finished fifth. Neil Meredith was the fastest qualifier with a time of 15.256 seconds. A number four was drawn and therefore the top four qualifiers were inverted. This placed Sorrow on the pole position which he used to propel him to the lead which he failed to relinquish throughout the race.

Chad Campbell claimed the win in B-Mini Stock race. Chuck Mitchell led the first three laps of the race before he was bypassed by David Darnell. Darnell led the race until lap fifteen when Chad Campbell battled past him. Campbell and Darnell resumed their battle on lap eighteen when Darnell drove up beside Campbell. For the next two laps the two ran side by side before Campbell moved out front at the end of lap nineteen. On the final lap Darnell looked for an opening but Campbell slammed it shut quickly and held on for his third victory of the season. David Darnell finished second. Chuck Mitchell finished third. Matt Meyers finished fourth. Wayne Hammond finished fifth.

Barry Tollison Sr. picked up the victory in the Super Renegade race. Eddie Henderson led the first lap of the race but lost the top spot on lap two to Phillip Peters. Peters led the next four laps of the race before he was over taken by Barry Tollison Sr. Once out front Tollison Sr pulled away and went on to take the victory. Phillip Peters finished second. Barry Tollison Jr finished third. Whitey Suttles finished fourth. Billy Lusk finished fifth.

Ricky Burnett won in the Talking Phonebook Renegade race. Burnett led every lap of the race as he picked up his fifth victory of the season. Shawn Campbell ran within striking distance of Burnett throughout the race but failed to make a serious bid to over take him. Shawn Campbell finished second. Greg Darnell finished third. Tracy Robertson finished fourth. Blake Gregory finished fifth.

Jack Kelley claimed the victory in the C-Mini Stock race. Skyler Queen led the first lap of the race before he relinquished the top spot to Kelly. Once out front Kelley held all contenders at bay as he picked up his first victory of the season. Brandon Segars finished second. Skyler Queen finished third. Elizabeth Lockwood finished fourth. Russell Powell finished fifth.

Tim Stokes won the B-M Modified race. Alan Mitchell held the lead the first twelve laps of the race while Stokes worked his way to the front. Following a caution on lap twelve Mitchell and Stokes battled side by side with Stokes taking the lead at the end of the thirteenth lap. Once out front Stokes held off Mitchell and picked up his second victory in a row. Alan Mitchell finished second. Bryce Malcolm finished third. Scott Hamby finished fourth. Benny Gillespie finished fifth.

Wayne Cowart was victorious  in the Front Wheel Drive race. Tommy Davis led the first five laps of the race before Cowart made his move. On lap six Cowart and Davis ran side by side before Cowart took the lead at the end of the lap. Once out front Davis pulled away from the field and went on to take his first victory of the season. Cowart became the fifth different driver to take a victory this season in the Front Wheel Drive division. Tommy Davis finished second. Mike Staton finished third. Justin Cone finished fourth. Bucky Smith finished fifth.

Luke Demlin claimed the victory in the 600 Legends race. Rex Brown led the first two laps of the race before he was over taken by Keven Wood. Once out front Wood pulled away from the field and led the remainder of the laps and received the checkered flag. Luke Demlin crossed the finish line in the second position. Following the race Wood failed post race inspection and the victory was awarded to Devlin. Todd McCullen Jr. finished second. Corey Parham finished third. Rex Brown finished fourth.

Racers’ Edge, the official parts distributor for Anderson Motor Speedway, presented two awards to the competitors on Friday night. Ryan Lockwood received the Racers’ Edge Hard Luck Award because his car was destroyed when he hit the turn one wall during the main event. Tim Stokes received the Racers’ Edge Hard Charger Award for his charge from the rear to the front of the B-M Modified race.
