It’s hard to think that there was something that Bubba Pollard had not done in the Pro Late Model racing world. Pollard has come close, but until last Friday night’s Sonata 100 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, he had never won a Pro Late Model race at the prestigious half-mile track. After a door-slamming final 10 laps, Pollard finally got that win and then followed it up with another victory on Saturday at South Alabama Speedway in the Viper Series.
“It was an amazing weekend,” said Pollard. “We were trying some new things with our setups and we just wanted to finish both races. Both nights we unloaded fast and never really had to work on the car. It making racing so much more fun when you have good weekends like this.”
Pollard took the pole on Friday night at Five Flags and worked his way to the front after a dice roll to set the field. He then went on to have an amazing battle with 2010 Pro Late Model Track Champion D.J. VanderLey. The two traded paint in the corners and came around turn four in a nearly-full dirt track slide.
“It was a good win,” said Pollard. “We had a hard battle with VanderLey and it got aggressive, but we were both able to keep our cars going straight and finish. It’s hard to believe this is our first Pro win here. We are happy to have these 100-lappers here this year.”

Pollard set fast time and played the same game at South Alabama Speedway on Saturday as he took his time getting to the front before taking the lead and the win. Pollard is now the point leader in the Viper Series, as he looks for his second championship after he won the title back in 2009.
“It took a while to get going on the start,” said Pollard. ” I just saved my car, and let the others get tight. We got a really good package on our car that stays the same the whole race. I just waited for a while and let their cars loose the handling and was able to pick them off. We don’t really race for points. We just come to race every weekend and our goal, each and every time, is to win the race. As long as you win races and have good finishes, the points will come.”
Bubba Pollard will have a rare off week this weekend before he heads back to Five Flags Speedway for the next Blizzard Series event on June 24th and then to Mobile International Speedway (AL) for the Miller Lite Super Late Model Series race on June 25th. Both races are a part of the Gulf Coast Championship Series and Pollard is currently second in the season standings for that series.
